Men of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 26 year old boy who allegedly set his mother ablaze at Mu’azu village in Sule Tankarkar local government area of Jigawa state.
The Jigawa State Police Command in a news release, said, the Commissioner of Police has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID to investigate the crime he described as unfortunate incident.
“On 08/10/2024 at about 16:00 hours, the Command was notified of a sad and regrettable incident that occurred in Mu’azu village, Dan Gwanki ward, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.
That one Nura Mas’ud ‘Male’ age 26 years of Mu’azu village, Sule tankarkar Local Government Area, went to his family house with a petrol canister and suddenly poured it on his grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad ‘female’, age 60 years of the same address, and set her ablaze.
The elderly woman eventually passed away while being admitted as a result of the conflagration. The medical doctor on call certified her death and the corpse was released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
A team of police detectives from Sule tankarkar division quickly arrested the suspect and detained him in the cell. He was later ferried to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation.
During the interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing the alleged offence against him.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect suffers from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital.
The suspects further stated that, the late grandmother upset him by expressing concern about his physical appearance and health, which he did not want. He warned her on several occasions but she refused. Thus, he purchased gasoline, poured and ignited her.
The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP A T Abdullahi psc, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, to thoroughly investigate the case and vigorously prosecute the perpetrator in order to deter others from repeating it”, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa state Police Command said on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in another news release, the Police Command stated that: “Following discreet and actionable intelligence, operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse arrested notorious armed robbery suspect terrorizing Dutse and Ringim emirates, in Benue state on September 10, 2024, around 08:00 hours.
The suspect, identified as Buhari Ya’u ‘male’ of Dausayi Fulani Settlement Camp, Ringim Local government area, was apprehended following an armed robbery that claimed the life of a 40-year-old Murtala Ja’afar at Kwanar Shafar along Ringim-Dutse road, Ringim Local Government Area on 08/06/2024, and the recovery of one fabricated pistol in his residential house when searched by a team of policemen from Ringim Division on 12/06/2024.
During an interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse, the suspect admitted to participating in armed robberies along Jahun_Gujungu, Dindibis_Gamoji, and Shuwarin_Kiyawa roads with four (4) of his gang members.
He also mentioned one Alhassan Idris (Aka Alhaji Ja’o) ‘male’ age 40 years of Jiyayye village, Ajingi Local government area, Kano state, who disposed of him the two (2) fabricated firearms at the rate of four hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦450,000).
The aforementioned Alhaji Ja’o was also arrested by detectives from SCID Dutse.
The duo are in police custody and have been given useful information.
On 16/09/2024, at about 18:00 hours, one Idris Musa ‘male’ age 43 years of Galambi Quarters, Gwaram Local government area, reported to Gwaram Divisional Police Headquarters that, on the same date, at about 03: 00 hours, when his wife awoke to ease herself, she saw two (2) armed men in their house with knives.
The hoodlums ordered her to bring them the sacks of sesame brought by her husband, or they would stab her with the knife.
She showed them where it was stored and then carted away with the sesame.
Similarly, the same perpetrators trespassed into the house of one Gambo Sale ‘male’ 42 years of Galambi Quarters, stole his tecno mobile phone and an unspecified amount of money, and then fled to an unknown location.
Upon receipt of the report, the patrol team was directed to the scene in order to apprehend the suspects.
The valiant team cum the affected area and apprehended the suspects with the aforementioned sesame and knives, which were used as evidence.
The suspects were identified as Abdurrahman Kawu ‘male’ age 19 years, and Idris Sale ‘male’ age 18 years all of Galambi Quarters in Gwaram Local government area.
When interrogated, the suspects admitted to committing the offence.
Between 17th to 26nd September, 2024, the Command’s Anti Cattle Rustling in collaboration with the policemen from Malam madori, Birniwa, Dutse and Babura Division as well as vigilante group and local hunters, burst the syndicate of a notorious cattle rustlers in Hadejia, Dutse, and Ringim Emirates particularly in Malam madori, Birniwa, Dutse and Babura Local Government Areas.
During the operation, thirteen (13) suspected cattle rustlers were arrested along with seven (7) cows and one golf wagon green in color with reg number RSH 510 HZ ABJ.
The suspects were identified as follows;
- Musa Ibrahim ‘m’ age 30yrs of Hadejia town
- Auwal Muhammad ‘m’ age 40yrs of Kacha kama village
- Ado Isah ‘m’ age 30yrs of Tubus village
- Mamman Rilwanu (fiya_fiya) ‘m’ age 35yrs of Takure village
- Abubakar Alh Umar ‘m’ age 37yrs of Kargo village
- Sule Baso alias sarki ‘m’ of Injeri Fulani settlement
- Da’u Sale ‘m’ of Sumore village
- Abubakar Dahiru ‘m’ of Kankare Madobi village
- Usman Abdullahi ‘m’ of Sumore village
- Sani Inusa ‘m’ age 27yrs of Yalwa Fulani settlement
- Sadiq Aminu ‘m’ age 20yrs of Bare Bari Quarters
- Ya’u Wammi ‘m’ age 26yrs of Dakatsalle village, Kano state
- Ibrahim Alhamdu ‘m’ age 30yrs of Bagauda village, Kano state.
On interrogation at the Divisional Police Headquarters, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence allegedly against them.
On 17/09/2004 at about 15:30 hours, detectives from Malam Madori Division apprehended Sabiu Alhasan ‘male’ 27 years of Majerin Kaba village, Malam Madori Local government area, at Kore village, Garki Local government area, in possession of one boxer motorcycle, which was strongly suspected of being possessed under false pretenses.
Prior to his arrest, on 09/09/2024 at about 11:00 hours, one Muhammad Nasir ‘male’ age 20 years of Kampala Quarters, Malam madori Local government area reported at the Division that, the above mentioned suspect deceived him and collected his boxer motorcycle red in color, valued at three hundred thousand naira (₦300,000) and fled away with it.
During his interrogation at the Divisional Crime Branch, the suspect confessed to the crime.
On 18/09/2024 at about 23:00 hours, one Mal Musa Bello ‘male’ age 45 years of Gidan ruwa Quarters, Kazaure Local government area reported at the Kazaure Division that on the same date at about 22:30 hours, unknown criminal elements stole his lifan motorcycle, black in color.
When the report was received, policemen on patrol were informed with a view to intercept the motorcycle and apprehend the perpetrators.
When the team invaded the area, they were fortunate to intercept one Sani Ja’afar ‘male’ age 45 years and one Nuhu Abdullahi ‘male’ age 30 years all of Gidan Ruwa, who were attempting to flee with the stolen motorcycle.
During interrogation at the Division, the duo admitted to committing the offense.
On 23/09/2024 at about 17:00 hours, credible information at the Command’s disposal revealed that a suspected face was sighted in a new park along Shuwarin road in Dutse metropolis attempting to load four (4) heavy solar inverter batteries into a commercial vehicle bound for Kano state.
Following receipt of the report, a team of policemen from Dutse Divisional Police Headquarters dashed to the motor park.
When the team arrived, one Sani Idris ‘male’ age 28 years of Fatara Housing Estate was arrested, along with the four batteries he was carrying.
The suspect and exhibits were taken to the Division for further investigation.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen the said solar batteries at Fatara Housing Estate, Dutse Local government area.
On 23/09/2024 at about 11:30 hours, a case of robbery and motorcycle snatching was reported at Gwiwa Division, that on 20/09/2024 at about 19:45 hours, a cyclist, one Murtala Usman ‘m’ age 27yrs of Dinya village, Gwiwa Local Government area carried two passengers from Dutsi market Katsina state to Badole village, Gwiwa Local government area.
On the way to the destination, one of the passengers grabbed the cyclist and turned off the motorcycle, while the other tried to heat him with the hoe handle.
In the process, the hoodlum overpowered him, snatched his unregistered boxer motorcycle worth eight hundred thousand naira (₦800, 000), and fled to an unknown location.
Following a tip off, on the said 23/09/2024 at about 18:30 hours, detectives from Gwiwa Division arrested one Armaya’u ‘Yusuf male’ age 32 years of Tsubut village, Gwiwa Local government area in connection with case.
The suspect was transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse for discreet investigation. The case is under investigation.
Upon completion of thorough investigation, all the suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution”, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa state Police Command, Dutse stated this in a news statement on 30th September, 2024.
